Friday’s Prediction: Boston University 3, UMass 2

Last Friday night, Boston University came into the Mullins Center and defeated the Minutemen by this same score, and I believe it will be a similar outcome at Agganis arena this time around. Once again, UMass just doesn’t quite have the depth to match up with Bobo Carpenter and Jordan Greenway. I hope that I’m proven wrong if Matt Murray has another exceptional game, but the situation is not looking favorable for UMass in their first game of their final back-to-back of the year.

Saturday’s Prediction: UMass Lowell 2, UMass 1

The biggest story of Saturday’s game is the junior goalie Christoffer Hernberg. He has been red-hot all season, as he currently ranks second in goals against average (2.06) and third in save percentage (.921) in the Hockey East, making the Riverhawks a team that will be difficult to beat on any night. The best chance the Minutemen have at upsetting in this game will be to give Hernberg a busy night and be relentless the whole game. Unlike the Terriers, the Minutemen don’t have as much scoring prowess and match up fairly evenly against the Riverhawks, but I still think putting pucks behind Hernberg will be a struggle. If they can get on the power play early and often and the student section with the Militia can get into it, the Minutemen could come out with a win. For now, however, I’ll have to stick to my guns with a low scoring game on Saturday night.
